Alessandro Lupino goes into 2014 with Team CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy MX2 determined to improve his world ranking yet further after recording his first GP podiums with the team last year.
The ever-smiling 23 year old from Viterbo in the rolling hills north of Rome has been Italy's top rider in the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship for the last five years, but he had never stood on a GP podium until he joined CLS last year. Alessandro first hit the headlines as long ago as 2006 when he clinched the FIM World 85cc Junior title and the following year he was second place in the 125cc class, but the teenager found the high expectations of his fellow countrymen a trifle intimidating as he was pushed immediately into the GPs alongside the current champion. His resolve enabled him to remain a regular points-scorer in the series, but it was not until last summer that he finally earnt a top ten world ranking aboard the factory-supported CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki KX250F. A gutsy rider who belies his "sunny boy" Latin good looks, Alessandro confirmed his tenacity when he shrugged off the devastating pain from a shoulder dislocation in his opening ride at the 2012 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations to race again within the hour to secure the result which helped his country to a top five finish in the overall classification and he again showed the spirit which has made him a national favourite as he scored the significant result which put his country on the podium of the annual world team for the first time since they had won in 2002. It was the same spirit which saw him rebound from numerous misfortunes through the world championship camaign to record the first two GP podium finishes of his career, first in Bulgaria and then in front of his home fans at the legendary Maggiora track when he took his KX250F past a rival just two laps from the end of the race.
