Brian Moreau second in the 85cc World Junior Championship

French youngster Brian Moreau Strubhart and young Dane Bastian Boegh Damm finished second and third at the FIM World 85cc Junior Motocross Championship aboard Kawasaki KX85 at El Molar in Spain.

Created by the FIM in 2004 the Junior World Championship is a one-day event that brings together the fastest 85cc and 125cc youngsters in the world. Involved in the 85cc class with Team Bud Racing Monster Energy and also with Team Stabilo Monster Energy, Kawasaki sent their best young riders to the line in Spain, just one week after the “green riders” claimed second, third and fourth position in the final round of the European series in Latvia.

On Saturday Brian Moreau (Bud Racing) posted the fastest lap time in the practice session, while Bastian Boegh Damm (Stabilo) took third position. On Sunday at the start of the opening race Brian was in the top ten through the first few corners and made some quick passes before losing some time when he fell for the first time. However Brian was so fast and smooth on this track that he soon regained the lost time and took over the lead. He had a few seconds advantage when he crashed at the bottom of a downhill and could only restart in fifth position; he regained one place before the chequered flag, but was disappointed to finish only fourth. He came to the line for the second moto even more motivated, and showed incredible speed to end his career in the 85cc class with a strong win. That was not quite enough to win the title, but the Kawasaki Bud Monster #225 was on the second step of the podium, a few weeks after winning the French Hopefuls title. Brian will move immediately to the 125cc class even though he is only thirteen years old.

Already runner up in the 85cc European Championship one week earlier in Kegums Latvia, followed by Dutch Brian Van Der Klij and Moreau, Bastian Boegh Damm was again one of the top kids in Spain. Runner-up in the opening race, the Danish rider scored a fourth position in the second one to clinch third overall behind Dutch Raivo Dankers and Moreau.

Brian Moreau Strubhart: “Of course I'm disappointed by my weekend, as I was leading the first race when I crashed and lost the World title there. My start was average in this race and I had already crashed at the beginning when I tried to pass Thibault Benistant for the lead, but then I came back to pass him again and made a small gap to my rivals. Then at the bottom of a downhill I made a mistake; I didn’t jump far enough on a table top, landed in a hole and crashed. My second start was a little bit better; I got the lead quickly and then stayed focus to win the race but that was not enough to get the title. It was my last race in this class; I’m so tall already that I don’t feel so comfortable anymore on an 85 and I’ve been waiting to ride a 125 for several weeks already. I will do my first race in this class soon, thanks to Bud Racing who provides great support to me and to our trainer Jacky Vimond.”
