Roan van de Moosdijk ninth in Italy

Roan van de Moosdijk of the F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team finished ninth in the sixteenth round of the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship at Pietramurata in the Trentino region of northern Italy.

The Dutch youngster once again confirmed his outright speed with his seventh runner-up slot in Qualifying but he found himself fourteenth initially in the opening GP moto after being closed down in the drag to turn one. Quickly finding his rhythm he had advanced to eighth by lap three before his progress was restricted in the leaderboard freight-train so often seen around the switchback track. Experimenting with alternative lines he cleverly rode around the rider ahead of him for seventh on lap six and, consistently setting faster lap times than the leaders whenever on a clear track, closed dramatically onto the rider in sixth until the rear wheel momentarily lost traction under acceleration on a slick patch; he was relegated to ninth, the position in which he finished. Eighth through turn one in race two the twenty-year-old soon found his rhythm again to move forward to fourth place by lap four and was looking at a podium finish until the front wheel slipped away in a rut to lose him two places. An incident four laps from the finish when a lapped rider stopped in his path cost two further place to take the chequered flag eighth. Ninth overall on the day he is now a secure seventh in the championship points standings.

Roan van de Moosdijk: “Another top three placing in Qualifying gave me confidence for the races but I had two bad starts and that is so important here. I made some good passes quickly in each moto but once the pack has settled it is so difficult to pass here even though I felt I was faster than the guys ahead of me. One mistake lost me two places to finish ninth. The second race was the same story even though the track was more hard-pack; I started fourth but a small crash put me back to sixth behind Renaux. I tried so many things but in the end a lapped rider hit neutral and I ran into him. The speed is good but I hope for better starts on Wednesday to run up front. “

There was further success for Kawasaki at Pietramurata on Saturday when French National MX1 champion Jimmy Clochet dominated the fourth round of the FIM Europe MX Open Championship on his debut in the class; the privateer, accompanied by his father as mechanic, scored two overwhelming start-finish victories aboard his over-the-counter KX450.

Jimmy Clochet: “Today was a really good day for me. Last year I was riding in the EMX250 with Bud Racing team but this year I got this new challenge to jump into the EMX Open class. I was feeling really good with the track and with the bike and I got two really good starts so I’m really happy about my day and I’m ready for the next round on Tuesday. “
