The defending champion immediately felt at home on the hillside track at Villars-sous-Ecot to record the fastest time in first practice and finish second in both timed practice and the qualifying race. After a second placed start in the opening GP moto he took the lead on the seventh of twenty laps and controlled the race for six laps before eventually finishing third. Another third place in race two earnt third place overall on the podium and the 40 points have lifted him to fourth in the series even though he missed three motos earlier in the season.
Recent signing Petar Petrov showed that he is quickly settling into the team as he also showed good speed all weekend to finish the GP seventh overall. His first race ride from ninth to fifth was impressive and he added an eighth place in race two to advance to eleventh in the points standings.
Max Anstie of Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki put a third Kawasaki in the first nine of the French GP with two fighting moto placing despite the handicap of starting from an unfavourable gate position. He battled from an initial twentieth to twelfth in race one but started seventh in race two to finish fifth and confirm his tenth place in the series standings.
Maxime Desprey of Monster Energy Bud Racing Kawasaki made his 2015 GP debut in his home GP and responded with two hard-fought rides to seventeenth and eighteenth; sadly falls in each race prevented him repeating a stunning qualification performance as he finished fifth.
Fellow European championship contender David Herbreteau raced to nineteenth position in qualification and made a dramatic start to the opening GP moto as he raced in the top six for several laps before an ankle injury prevented him from contesting the second race.
Thomas Covington was a non-starter on race day after hurting a shoulder during the qualification race but expects to return to racing at the Italian GP in two week's time to defend his twelfth place in the series standings.
Jordi Tixier: “I felt really good all weekend until the second moto when I couldn’t find a good rhythm to follow Jeffrey (Herlings) and Tim (Gajser). Racing in front of my home crowd made this GP very different from the others; the crowd pushed us and being on the podium at this event is always great. When I took the lead in the first race it was just amazing ! It’s my fifth podium in a row and my goal is always to be consistent but also to improve my speed to be higher on the podiums.”
Petar Petrov: “The weekend was good; I’m happy with the bike and the team. I got a good start in the first race and then made some good passes to finish fifth, but my second start was horrible; I came from nineteenth to eighth but then the group in front of me was gone. I pushed hard but never had a good feeling with the track and just missed the top five overall by one point. We’ve now got two weeks to prepare for the next GP.”
Max Anstie: “It was a shame about my gate position because coming from gate forty was not ideal on this track. The first race was tough with a bad start, but a solid second race was good with a top five result and I’m now looking forward to Italy in two weeks.”
Maxime Desprey: “I’m disappointed as today I couldn’t confirm my fifth position in the qualifying race in my first GP this season. I was involved in a mass crash at the first start, and came back from last to seventeenth. The second start was better and I was seventh but I crashed and again had to recover from last to eighteenth. I showed that my speed was good but I just need to get the GP rhythm. I want to thanks my team and mechanics; I really enjoy riding the Bud Kawasaki and hope to soon have the opportunity to be back in the GPs.”
David Herbreteau: “In the first moto I nearly got the holeshot, only losing it to Jeffrey Herlings by a whisker, but it was great to ride in front of my home crowd. I had some nice battles with Jordi (Tixier) and Gajser, but then I lost some positions as I don't yet have so much experience because I am coming from the 125 class last year. Unfortunately I crashed on a jump and fell on my foot; I had pain in my left ankle so I wasn’t able to continue and will now have some examinations.”
Thomas Covington: “I was feeling really good coming into this weekend, but unfortunately I jumped too far on the big step down and injured my shoulder on the impact. I wasn’t able to ride on race day; hopefully it’s nothing too serious and I can return to racing in Maggiora.”
