Clément Desalle wins in France

Clement Desalle of the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team raced to an impressive victory in the French round of the FIM MXGP World Motocross Championship at Ernée and is now third in the standings.

The immaculate Belgian was in impressive form all weekend as he raced to an unchallenged victory in qualification and was again on the top of his game on race day. Quickly fourth in race one, he was closing down on third until one small mistake temporarily cost him ground at as significant time of the race, but he was back on the riders head of him by the close to miss second place by just over two seconds. A better start in race two saw Clement quickly take over the lead and he was never put under pressure again as he could ride his own lines and control the pace from the front. The victory lifts him to third in the points standings, just eight points behind second as the series approaches the halfway stage two weeks from now in Russia.

Teammate Jordi Tixier was still affected by the after-effects of his heavy crash last week in Germany and had been unable to practice on the bike all week. The injuries to his right leg also handicapped the Frenchman in the corners and he suffered more pain when another rider ran into him during qualification. The injuries inevitably meant a cautious approach on race day and he had to be satisfied with a 15-18 scorecard. Having missed several GPs Jordi is eighteenth in the standings but looking to make advances during the second half of the campaign.

Clement Desalle: "It felt good yesterday already to win qualification but it is even better to be back on the top step of the podium. I'm so happy; I can't even remember the last time I won a moto before injuries interfered. I missed the start in the first moto and had to settle for fourth after I made a mistake, but I was soon in the lead in race two and could focus on my own riding. That was good for me and this win is good for me, the team and my family. Now my goal is to be consistent and to keep making good starts."

Jordi Tixier: « I didn’t train so much this week after my crash in Germany, and this weekend again I had to be careful with my leg in the right corners. During the qualifying session another rider hit me after a stupid move in the last corner; we both crashed and I qualified in fifteenth. Race day was tough with so many ruts on the track; it was so frustrating not to be able to ride normally with this leg injury. I want to forget this weekend, and we’ll continue to work and to be in better shape for the next GP."
